Salvation Hill

Time for another Pilgrim’s Progress post! I hope you have been enjoying them and will continue too because there are so many more to come, haha.

Christian is now free from his burden and has been directed to continue on his journey.

But now he has been walking and meets three people: Sloth, Simple, and Presumption. They were all sleeping, so Christian decides to awaken them because of the dangers that are on the path. He wakes them up by quoting scripture (Proverbs 23:34 and 1 Peter 5:8). But they are blind (not literally but figuratively) and don’t understand Christian’s urgencies. With that they go back to sleep and Christian goes on his way.

Next, Christian meets two men, one whose name was Hypocrisy, and the other Formalist. They were trying to be half-followers – which you can’t be. They short cut their way to the gate. Which reminds me of a quote…

But anyway, Christian tells them that there’s only one way. It’s a narrow and hard road, but it leads to life, and life to the full!!! They don’t really seem to care, though. They are convinced they can cheat their way into God’s kingdom – which, news flash, you can’t!

Anyway, all three continued on the way. They eventually came to a giant hill and then 2 other paths, one called Destruction and the other Danger. Hypocrisy and Formalist, seeing that those paths were shorter and less steep then the main hill, took those ways. Christian though, took the grueling main hill. And that was the last time he saw those two, I think.

After some difficulties and struggles, the next day comes and Christian runs into two more people who were also on the narrow road, but coming back. Mistrust and Timorous.

These two had started on the journey to the narrow gate but had turned around to come back. Then they have a long conversation, but Christian continues on his way, nevertheless of what the others say. ANYWAYS, yeah, that was most of what I read ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that one was okay; lots of other characters for sure. But my overall thing I got from it would probably be…

Yes, there are hardships in this life. Pain, struggles and difficulties while walking with Jesus. But there are so many wonderful moments in having a relationship with the one true God and the everlasting joy that flows through us as Christians makes it worth it. The joy and hope that God has given us intertwines in the struggles even though it’s hard. But Jesus is the only way to life.

He uses all our pains and joys and creates each one of us a new and beautiful creation each day. His love never leaves us even when we choose to abandon Him. But in order to actually be a Christian and have eternal life, we have to choose Him and give Him our surrender.

He’s there with open arms ๐Ÿ™‚

With that, I hope you will keep enjoying my posts and comment on some of them! Reading the comments are fun ๐Ÿ˜‰
