Hi, hello, what is up?! Ready for another Pilgrim’s Progress post? I am! Let’s get started ๐
Oh, and I’m going to make this post shorter then the other ones just so you know! So it might not be as detailed and as much context as usual! I hope you enjoy it though!
context
Alrighty then! So where we left off was Christian and Faithful had entered the Vanity Fair. They had been taken into judgement and Faithful had died there. But then God gave Christian Hopeful as a companion and they began to travel together.
So now that we’re all caught up, I’ll start where we are. Hopeful actually explains that there are some in the fair who want to get out of their terrible cycle as well. Very nice!
The two were on the road when they bumped into someone named By-End who said he was from a wealthy place called Fair-speech and heading also to the Celestial City. He didn’t tell Hopeful and Christian his name though.
Okay to be honest with you I really didn’t know what was going on but here’s what I think happened:
- Christian and Hopeful meet a man who claims he is going to the same place they are but he’s a bit off
- the man weirds Christian and Hopeful out so they distance themselves
- more people from where By-End comes from appear and By-End tells them a false back round story of Christian and Hopeful
- there’s lots of talking and then they go to a place called Doubting Castle where 2 giants live
- they get captured by the giants
- they pray and Christian has a key called Promise that can open any door in Doubting Castle so the two pilgrims escape!
my thoughts
So this section was a bit long and I was kind of lost the entire time, heheh. But it’s okay! It was very interesting.
One point I got from the section I read was about the key Promise. It made me think of a verse
trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
Hope the next one is a little more clear and enjoy the rest of the posts!
Thanks for reading ๐
