introduction
Hi, guys! This is my research post on why we need to be saved. There’s no question about it – we all need saving. But why? And by who?
Well, that is what I will be writing up on; so just remember that this is from my opinion/perspective (which is Christian). I hope you enjoy this paper and it will be helpful and answer some questions for you!
Alright, so there are SO MANY different resources, religions, perspectives, and opinions in this world. We’ve got Catholic, Mormons, atheists, Muslims, and so much more. And in most of these religions the followers have to work in order to have peace.
But Christianity is different.
brief ‘how to be saved”
One of the most critical and beautiful parts of the Bible is to that to be saved, we don’t have to “earn” our salvation!
Technically, this is a paper on WHY, not HOW so I’ll just say real quick that we don’t NEED or HAVE to be really nice, or say twenty prayers a day to get to heaven. All we have to do is truly believe that Jesus was here, lived a sinless life, died (a brutal death), rose, ascended into heaven, and is coming back!
And so, if you really do actually believe this, and believe that Jesus gave us all the gift of His Spirit to be in relationship with us, then you start to WANT to do good things and live your life out for Him.
why can’t we save ourselves and
what does the Bible say?
We all need a savior because we are all broken. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”1 See, we ALL have sinned! We ALL screw up and every single person makes mistakes. Even Christians!
So maybe you don’t care and you’re asking, “who cares if we’re broken?” Well, God does! Plus, I don’t believe living in sin is something anyone is proud of or feels good about. Without Jesus in our lives, there’s always gonna be something missing and you’re gonna feel it, too. I can guarantee that no one likes feeling empty, and without Jesus, always trying so desperately to fill that empty place in your soul.
When Jesus says He came for the sick and sinners in Mark 2:172, I don’t think He’s saying some of us need a savior and some of us don’t. I think He’s trying to point out that we all are sick and broken but the difference is some of us know it and take action, while others don’t.
We need to be saved for a number of reasons3…
- We are completely lost in sin (read Romans 3:10-12)
- Without being saved BY JESUS, we are destined for hell (check out Luke 16:15)
- We cannot save ourselves
There are so many places in the Bible it says about salvation through Jesus – there’s no way I can put them all! But I encourage you to do your own research in that area.
So now we know that we need to be saved, (the Bible clearly states it in so many other places!) but why do we need to be saved by God?
Well, for that question, it says SO SIMPLY and SO MANY TIMES in the Bible that we cannot save ourselves! But God is the only one who can save.
Hebrews 10:1-44, Romans 3:20, Galatians 3:10, and Psalm 20:7-8 help us see that we can’t be saved by the law, or any earthly things. We must put our trust in God because without Him, we will perish forever rather then live in His love and in relationship with Him forever.
I really like Psalm 20:7-8…
“Some trust in chariot and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.”
Because it shows that the Lord is the only firm foundation to stand on. Anything else will eventually crumble.
You see, humans messed up from the beginning of time by falling into the Enemy’s trick. Since that, we are all born with sin. So it’s like we are hopelessly trapped.
But hopelessly is the wrong word because God is our HOPE.
but God…
God did not leave us to sit and rot in our shame. He offers us the only way to salvation! The only way to true life.
In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” And that gives us proof because Jesus did not say “I am ONE of the ways, truth and life,” He said He IS THE truth and THE life.
“Scripture is abundantly clear: salvation is found in Christ alone.”5 “To deny that truth is to deny the authority of God’s Word. No longer is God’s Word the authority in many places—we are. And the thoughts of our culture, or our own thoughts, become our standard, rather than God and His Word.”
Pretty crazy to think about challenging God and His authority, right? But that is basically what we are doing when we say we need to earn His love and freedom.
conclusion
With all of this being said, we really need a savior because we are broken and lost without one. But we only can be saved by Jesus because He is the only way to life!
So, to wrap everything up…
1. we are broken and in need of a savior
2. Jesus Christ is the only one who can save us
3. but in order to be saved we must repent and He will forgive us and invite us into His family
4. the more you grow in your relationship with Jesus and want to be more like Him, the fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control, etc..) will be more abundant in your life and you will want to please the Lord with your life.
Well, with that, I hope that this was a helpful paper and that you enjoyed it! I hope it helped with questions and now you should go read my post on my web: caralisse.me!
“Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.” Galatians 6:23-24.
