The Delectable Mountains

Hi! For the Pilgrim’s Progress post today, it will probably be a little bit more brief then usual! But let’s get started 🙂

context

Alright, so after Christian and Hopeful escaped from the giants, they made it to the Delectable Mountains which were a beautiful place to walk through – especially after all the chaotic stuff. The Delectable Mountains belonged to the Lord!

They meet some shepherds after they had washed off in the river and ate delicious food. The shepherds talk with them for a bit. I liked this line:

these mountains are Immanuel Land’s, and they are within sight of his city; and the sheep are also His, and He laid down His life for them

John 10:11

Anyways, they talked with them for a bit before walking with them.

Then they showed Hopeful and Christian this cliff called Error with a bunch of like dead people on the other side? Not very clear, but I think that’s what happened.

Then the shepherds showed the pilgrim’s a place with tombs. Christian and Hopeful asked, “what is this?” and then the shepherds explained a bit but all I am going to share is this verse they said:

he that wandered out of the way of understanding, shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

Proverbs 21:16

and THEN, the shepherds showed them a dark smoky room that they said was a way to hell, I think.

But soon enough, Christian and Hopeful went on their way to the Celestial City. The shepherds had warned them about a man they might meet named the Flatterer. So, with that, Christian and Hopeful, the two good pilgrims, kept going.

They soon met a boy named Ignorance who claimed he was going to the Celestial City too, but kind of like By-end, he was a bit off.

Anyways, then there was a supposedly good man named Little-faith but he was robbed by Mistrust and more. Christian and Hopeful discussed Little-faith together.

A few people helped out poor Little-faith who had been knocked out and bleeding in order to be robbed of his money. He still had some jewels though, I think.

ANYWAYS. Basically, I’m pretty sure it ends with Christian and Hopeful just continuing their journey and talking.

my thoughts

that one was pretty good. It was pretty easy to follow until the part where Little Faith came in, haha.

But it’s all good! I liked the very beginning when Christian and Hopeful were just walking through the Delectable mountains, it was giving

peaceful and unharmed

this is the part where I really think about how life is like this journey that Christian is making.

life is kind of like a roller coaster

it takes you up and down and all around. but disciples of Jesus have Him to lean on through it all!

There is a lot of chaos and craziness in life as a one following Jesus. But there are so many moments that just feels like you belong and following the Lord is what your meant to do.

So, it’s like, after a giant mess or situation (like Christian and Hopeful had with the giants) there are pleasantness’s of life that God gives us and sometimes his peace and love just flows through us. I’m gonna end with this verse:

the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul
